Spy
Game Spy is an awesomely useful program for finding servers to online
games, it access a huge data base of active online games servers, and
gives you information about the server such as any mods being used, the
game patch level needed to join, and info about players in the server,
their names, ping ect.

Winipcfg
Winipcfg is a standard windows 95/98 applet that will tell you what your
current IP number is. This information is useful if you are hosting
an online game and you have to let your friends know your IP number so
they can join. Winipcfg is a applet that should already be installed
on your computer as its a part of the Windows operating system. Just
type winipcfg from Start Menu/Run
to start the applet. If you end up using it a lot, its best to
create a short cut in your start menu or on your desktop. To do
this, click on Start Menu/Find/Files or Folders and search for winipcfg,
once you have found the file right click and hold on the file and drag it
to your desktop, then release. Select create shortcut here from the
menu. This one probably wont be of much use to you with most games,
but does come in handy with older games. I use it to let other
people know what my IP number is so they can join my games
Roger Wilco
Roger Wilco is a stand-alone
application that allows you and your friends to talk to each other while
playing multiplayer online games. It works with most existing games such
as Quake II, DIABLO, and Star Craft, and nearly every game under
development. It is an unobtrusive companion technology that lets you talk
to the other players instead of typing messages to them!
